What "fully funded" actually covers

It varies more than the phrase suggests. Some organisers cover registration only; others add international flights, accommodation, meals and visa support. The funding label on each card comes from the organiser's own wording, so read the detail page before you assume flights are included.

Watch the application deadline rather than the event date. Funded places are usually decided two to four months ahead, and selection panels rarely reopen. Where a card shows Deadline over, the round has closed — but most of these programmes run annually, so it is still worth noting for next year.

How to tell a genuine funded call from a fee trap

A real funded programme names its funder, publishes selection criteria, and never asks for payment to process an application. Be cautious where an event advertises "full funding" but charges a non-refundable application or registration fee, gives no named committee, or promises guaranteed publication. Our guide to spotting predatory conferences covers the rest.
